Health Requirements Governing the Admission Of Animals
SHEEP
All sheep entering Iowa for breeding or feeding purposes, but not sheep consigned for immediate slaughter, shall be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
All sexually intact sheep must be officially, individually identified with scrapie ear tags. Sexually intact sheep less than 18 months of age moved to an approved terminal feedlot are exempt from identification. Wethers under 18 months of age are exempt from identification.
The following must be listed on the certificate of veterinary inspection:
1. Either the animal’s individual identification number(s) or the flock(s) of origin’s premises identification number(s);
2. The number of animals covered by the CVI;
3. The purpose of the movement;
4. The name and address of the consignor
5. The name and complete address of the consignee:
6. Approved terminal feedlot number for animals consigned to an approved terminal feedlot.
Scabies:
Sheep from scabies quarantined areas must meet federal regulations for interstate movement.
Scrapie:
Sheep known to be scrapie-positive, suspect, high-risk, or exposed, or originate from a known infected, source, exposed, or noncompliant flock are not permitted entry without prior permission of the state veterinarian.
Tuberculosis:
All sheep native to or originating from a county or region under quarantine for tuberculosis are not eligible for entry into Iowa.
