DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that he will again be visiting each of Iowa’s 99 counties in 2008 to meet with Iowans and discuss the status of agriculture in the state. Northey will begin his 2008 visits with town meetings in Jasper and Poweshiek counties on Thursday, January 17th.
Northey will be the meeting at the Farm Bureau office in Newton and Saints Rest Coffee House in Grinnell.
“I learned a lot about all that is going on in agriculture through the town meetings I hosted across the state last year and I’m confident this year will be no different,” Northey said. “I’m excited to hear from Iowans, both farmers and non-farmers alike, about the issues facing agriculture and the opportunities available through this industry.”

Northey, a corn and soybean farmer from Spirit Lake, is serving his first term as Secretary of Agriculture. His priorities as Secretary of Agriculture are the opportunities in renewable energy, conservation and stewardship, and telling the story of Iowa agriculture.
