BRANSTAD, NORTHEY TO VIEW CONSERVATION
PROJECTS NEAR MADRID ON MAY 4

Stop part of Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Week activities

DES MOINES – Governor Terry Branstad and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will visit a farm near Madrid on Thursday, May 4 to view practices that have been installed to protect water quality. Branstad will also sign a proclamation recognizing April 30 – May 7 as Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Week during the event.

The farm is within the Big Creek watershed and has four saturated buffers that were installed last fall.  A bioreactor and oxbow restoration is also scheduled be completed this year.  Iowa State University is leading a number of research projects on the farm.

Where:           The farm is located at 2155 290th Street, Madrid.  The field where the event is held is located ½ mile west and ½ mile south of the farm.  Signs will be posted to direct visitors to the site.

When:             10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017

Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Week is in coordination with the National Stewardship Week, sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts.  This year’s Stewardship Week theme is “Healthy Soils are Full of Life.”
