SHARP INCREASE IN GASOLINE PRICES

DES MOINES – Iowa retail gasoline prices rose $.20 this week, closing at $2.55 per gallon.  The national average price for retail gasoline rose $.26, ending the week at $2.66 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.61 per barrel over last week, and is currently priced at $49.16.

Brent crude oil was up $2.45 and is currently priced at $54.26.

One year ago WTI crude sold for $44.83 and Brent crude was at $46.21.

Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, Sept. 5th, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.55 across Iowa according to AAA.  This is up $.20 from last week and $.32 higher than one year ago.  The national average on Tuesday was $2.66, up $.26 from last week’s price. 

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa rose $.11 from last week’s price with a statewide average of $2.62.   One year ago diesel prices averaged $2.38 in Iowa.   The current Iowa diesel average is $.06 lower than the national average of $2.68.

Wholesale ethanol prices were up $.11 from last week’s price, currently at $1.56. 

The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.80 for U87-E10, $2.03 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.87, ULSD#1 is at $2.05, and E-70 is priced at $1.75 per gallon.

Heating Fuels
Natural Gas prices are down $.02 at the Henry Hub reporting site and ended the week at $2.86/ MMbtu.

Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
