SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN HEATING OIL PRICES

DES MOINES – The price of heating oil in Iowa rose $.13 from last month’s prices, ending the week at $1.78.

Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.00 per barrel over last week, and is currently priced at $48.14.

Brent crude oil rose $1.36, and is currently priced at $48.89.

One year ago WTI crude sold for $59.43 and Brent crude was at $65.15.

Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, May 17th, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.20 across Iowa according to AAA.  This is $.07 higher than one week ago and $.41 lower than one year ago.  The national average on Tuesday was $2.24, $.04 higher than last week. 

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were a penny higher with a statewide average of $2.19.   One year ago diesel prices averaged $2.76 in Iowa.   The current Iowa diesel average is $.05 lower than the national average of $2.24.

Wholesale ethanol prices were up $.06 this week, closing at $1.59. 

The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.55 for U87-E10, $1.82 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.51, ULSD#1 is at $1.66, and E-70 is priced at $1.72 per gallon.

Heating Fuels
Propane prices were $.02 lower than last month with a statewide average of $.98 per gallon.  Home heating oil rose $.13 from last month’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $1.78.  Natural Gas prices were $.07 lower at the Henry Hub reporting site and ended the week at $1.97 / MMbtu.
