NATURAL GAS, DIESEL PRICES TREND UPWARD

DES MOINES – Natural gas prices rose $.31, ending the week at $3.14/MMbtu.  Iowa diesel prices rose $.05 this week, closing at $2.42 per barrel, while national diesel prices rose $.04, closing at $2.41 per barrel. 

Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.94 per barrel over last week, and is currently priced at $50.17.

Brent crude oil rose $.13, and is currently priced at $51.85.

One year ago WTI crude sold for $49.63 and Brent crude was at $50.95.

Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, October 11th, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.21 across Iowa according to AAA.  This is a penny higher than one week ago and $.30 lower than one year ago.  The national average on Tuesday was $2.25, up $.02 from last week’s price. 

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa rose $.05 from last week with a statewide average of $2.42.   One year ago diesel prices averaged $2.54 in Iowa.   The current Iowa diesel average is a penny higher than the national average of $2.41.

Wholesale ethanol prices were $.02 higher than last week’s price, closing at $1.54. 

The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.45 for U87-E10, $1.71 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.70, ULSD#1 is at $1.90, and E-70 is priced at $1.67 per gallon.

Heating Fuels
Propane prices were up $.02 from last week’s report, with a statewide average of $.99 per gallon.  Home heating oil rose $.04 from last week, ending with a statewide average of $2.04.  Natural Gas prices rose $.31 at the Henry Hub reporting site and ended the week at $3.14 / MMbtu.
